Where to celebrate an anniversary in Bangalore: 10 places we'd suggest

Your anniversary lands on a Thursday, one of you has a late call, and the restaurant you booked last year has a two-week wait. In Bangalore you still have good choices on short notice: a rooftop with a view, a coastal dinner, a night away without leaving the city, a sunrise trip, or a quiet room with a film. Here are 10 places across the city, with the area, an approximate cost and who each one suits.

Dinners and evenings out

High Ultra Lounge

High Ultra Lounge sits at the top of the World Trade Center building at Brigade Gateway, with open-air seating and the city lights spread out below. The mood leans towards cocktails and music more than a hushed dinner, so dress up a little. Reserve for sunset, ask for outdoor seating and carry a light jacket, because it gets windy up there.

Area: Dr Rajkumar Road, Malleshwaram · Cost: about ₹5,000 and up for two (approximate) · Suits: couples who enjoy a lively night out

Karavalli

Book Karavalli a few days ahead for weekends, and ask whether outdoor seating is open when you call. It has served food from India's west coast since 1990, in a garden restaurant designed like a traditional Mangalorean home, and seafood is the reason to come.

Area: Vivanta Bengaluru, Residency Road · Cost: about ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 for two (approximate) · Suits: couples for whom a great meal is the celebration

Olive Beach

Olive Beach is a long-running Mediterranean restaurant with white walls, a courtyard and a terrace. It's calmer than a rooftop bar and suits a long conversation. When you book, ask for the courtyard or terrace, mention it's your anniversary, and confirm they're open on your date.

Area: Wood Street, Ashok Nagar (off Richmond Road) · Cost: about ₹4,000 to ₹6,000 for two (approximate) · Suits: a classic candlelit dinner without a loud crowd

Windmills Craftworks

Windmills puts a jazz stage, walls of books and its own craft beer on one floor in Whitefield. For couples who met over music, dinner in front of a live set feels more personal than a white-tablecloth restaurant. Performance nights usually run midweek to Saturday, so check the schedule and book a table.

Area: EPIP Zone, Whitefield · Cost: about ₹3,000 to ₹5,000 for two, plus any show ticket (approximate) · Suits: music lovers on the east side of the city

A night away

Taj West End

Taj West End began as a small inn in 1887. Look for its staycation packages and ask about late checkout, then spend the extra hours in about 20 acres of gardens in the middle of the city, with no travel at either end.

Area: Race Course Road, central Bangalore · Cost: about ₹15,000 and up per night for a room, depending on season and offers (approximate) · Suits: couples with kids at home who want one uninterrupted night

Day trips

Nandi Hills

Watching the sun come up over the clouds at Nandi Hills is a Bangalore tradition, and leaving around 4:30 AM is part of it. Go on a weekday if you can, since weekend queues at the gate get long. October to March gives you the best chance of mist.

Area: about 60 km north of the city (approximate) · Cost: about ₹2,500 to ₹4,000 for a return cab, plus a small entry fee (approximate) · Suits: early risers and couples who met on a trip

Mysuru

A day trip lets you walk through Mysore Palace in daylight and stay for its evening illumination, with Chamundi Hills and a long lunch in between. Leave Bangalore by 6:30 AM and check that the illumination is scheduled for your date.

Area: about 150 km south-west, roughly 3 hours by road (approximate) · Cost: about ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 for a cab for the day, plus food and entry tickets (approximate) · Suits: couples who like history and don't mind a long day

Doing something together

Clay Station

Clay Station has run pottery classes in HSR Layout since 2009. Fired pieces take a while to be ready, so ask when you can collect yours. Sitting at the wheel side by side is a relaxed way to spend an afternoon, and nobody expects your first bowl to come out round.

Area: HSR Layout · Cost: about ₹2,000 to ₹4,000 for two for a workshop (approximate) · Suits: couples who are tired of restaurants

Ranga Shankara

Check Ranga Shankara's schedule early in the week, because popular shows sell out. The theatre stages a play most days in Kannada, English, Hindi and other languages, and tickets stay reasonably priced.

Area: 8th Cross, JP Nagar 2nd Phase · Cost: about ₹400 to ₹1,000 for two (approximate) · Suits: couples who enjoy stories and want something different

A private theatre room

Rosae

This one is ours. You book a private room for three hours, and every room has access to the major OTT platforms, so you can watch anything on them, which makes it easy to rewatch the first film you saw together if it is streaming. You can also play your own wedding video: tell our team first on +91 63617 29855 and they will contact you to set it up. There are no cameras inside the theatre rooms. Outside food isn't allowed, but you can bring your own cake, and the QR code in your room lets you order from our kitchen straight to the theatre door. Alcohol is not allowed at Rosae.

Rooms for two cost from ₹1,097 for CINEPOD to ₹2,997 for INFINITY per 3-hour slot, GST included. For a family screening, COSMOS seats up to eight and is priced by headcount, from ₹1,648 for two plus ₹250 per extra guest (₹3,148 for eight). Children under 5 don't count towards the headcount. Guests must be 18+, but children can come with adults in a group booking. The price is the same in every slot, every day.

Area: Jyothi Nivas College Road, 5th Block, Koramangala · Cost: from ₹1,097 for two per 3-hour slot · Slots: 10am-1pm, 1-4pm, 4-7pm, 7-10pm, 10pm-1am · Suits: couples who want privacy, or families watching the wedding video together

Two anniversary evenings we'd plan

For a couple, book a 7:30 pm table at Olive Beach and our 10pm-1am slot in DREAM. Leave the restaurant by about 9:15 and you'll reach us with time to arrive 15 minutes early. If you've uploaded your ID and paid the balance online, you show the QR code at the door and walk in (otherwise reception checks your ID and uploads a photo for you). Put on the film you saw on your first date, recline, and cut the cake you brought halfway through. The math for two: Olive Beach about ₹5,000 + DREAM ₹1,748 = about ₹6,750. Swap dinner for a meal in Koramangala 5th Block at about ₹1,200 and it comes to about ₹2,950.

For a family screening of the wedding video, call the helpline a few days ahead so the team can set up the video, then book COSMOS for six in the 4-7pm slot. The math: COSMOS for six ₹2,648 + a cake from your own bakery about ₹800 (approximate) = about ₹3,450, before anything you order from our kitchen.

How to choose

With one evening, pick a dinner, the jazz night or a film with us. A whole day suits Nandi Hills or Mysuru, while a night at Taj West End gives you a proper break from routine. If you'd rather do something together than sit across a table, choose the pottery class or a play.
